Welcome to the Portsmouth Public Library
I am happy to have you visit our website. You may have stopped by to use the library catalog to search for a book or DVD. Perhaps you want help searching your family tree and plan to use HeritageQuest, one our online databases, where you can access census records from 1790-1930, a number of books, and the Freedman’s Bank registers. Our local history department offers a variety of digitized records that are specific to Portsmouth and only available here.
You may be a teen working on an essay and are taking advantage of one of our other databases to locate articles for that very important paper. General OneFile, (from within Find it Virginia) which lets you scan over 90,000,000 articles from magazines and journals from around the world, may be your pick but there are others available to choose from. Or you are a mature citizen who needs to find resources on Senior Navigator.
Whatever the reason – welcome!
