Public Policy

The Internet is a series of electronic links that allow people to connect to a large number of ever-changing sites established by a wide variety of contributors. Much information and many viewpoints are available through the Internet, but not all of it is accurate, complete, or up-to-date; and some of it may be controversial or biased. The library is not and cannot be held responsible for such material.

Patrons of all ages are encouraged to be good information consumers and to evaluate sites and information carefully. Library staff have attempted to identify on the Library System’s home page sites that conform to the Materials Selection Policy. The Library System cannot guarantee that these sites will not change or disappear.

Parents and guardians are responsible for the Internet information selected and/or accessed by their children. Children who use the Internet unsupervised may be exposed to inappropriate information and images. Parents are strongly encouraged to discuss the use of the Internet with their children and to monitor their children’s use of the Internet.

The Portsmouth Public Library System is not responsible for any misuse of copyright or any other violation by the library user. Information from the Internet should be cited to avoid plagiarism.
